Psychotherapy involves working together with a trained professional (Registered Psychotherapist) on issues that are causing you mental distress. Your sessions (whether in person, phone or online) are a confidential, safe and non-judgmental environment, to explore and better understand your thoughts, feelings and behaviours. Psychotherapy allows you to express yourself openly, and be listened to, empathetically.
Depending on the issue, psychotherapy may involve creating goals, learning new techniques and skills, psychological- education, and receiving guidance and support, towards gaining meaningful change in your life.
Abeer uses a combination of therapeutic methods, and tailors sessions to the specific needs of the client. She incorporates evidence-based Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and elements of Existential psychotherapies.
She has trained with the Gottman Institute and uses the research-based Gottman Method for couples’ therapy.

New clients are welcome to explore how psychotherapy can be helpful to them. We offer a 15 minute initial phone consultation free of charge.
When you call in for a consultation, we will be able to answer your questions about session fees according to your needs.
Sessions are not covered by OHIP but many private insurance plans now cover psychotherapy services. Please check with your benefits plan to see if you are covered for services by a "Registered Psychotherapist". Keep in mind that for couples therapy, the coverage of either or both partners may be applied towards the fees.
Payment is due at the end of every session. We accept payment by e-transfer and credit card. An official receipt is provided when payment is received. Please retain this receipt for your insurance claims, if applicable.
Protecting our clients' privacy is our number one priority! What you choose to share in psychotherapy will remain completely confidential, unless there are extraordinary circumstances (which will be explained and require your consent, before the first session).
Abeer is a member of the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO), and the Ontario Association of Mental Health Professionals (OAMHP), and abides by the Code of Ethics of both organizations.
